DEQ: The Sun and The Moon
Duratrans print, light box, stamp
2018
DEQ: The Sun and the Moon relates to a memory from the artist’s elementary school years, which is also mentioned in Self Portrait, Other Portraits and Things. The stamps, as referenced by this memory, carry two symbols from a tattoo tradition that has ceased to exist due to political and social pressures; they make an attempt to come into contact with the spell of these tattoos that are imprinted on the body due to various motives such as calling out for prosperity, or protecting the self from the evil eye. Images captured by Mr. Mehmet, whose story is narrated in the video, are displayed upon his permission. The tattoo prints are anonymous.
